Majd in her own words
Peace be upon you. I’m Majd from Palestine, one of the Arabs of 48. Where do I even start?
First, God bless Dr. Mohammad Al-Zaitawi, and God bless you, Sally, because I was always messaging you at the beginning after the surgery and you always replied quickly and with real care.
I went from 89 to 55 kg, and honestly I don’t feel like I’ve had a gastric bypass, because I follow your instructions. Thank God, I don’t even feel like I’m on a diet, because I eat everything. And can you imagine, I stopped craving sweets! I feel like that’s it, I’ve reached the right body, what do I need these harmful things for?
Before the surgery I spent five years trying diets, and not once did it work for me!
Thank God I’ve reached the point where unhealthy food can be all around me and I don’t even notice it, because I reached a result I’m happy with. And thank God I have no pain, no stomach ache, and no vomiting! Everyone around me asks: do you vomit? do you have pain? Nobody believes I haven’t vomited even once!
I eat and I enjoy my food because I eat smartly, and my body started loving healthy food on its own, because the result was fast and immediate from the very first month. In the first month I lost 10 kg.
I could still lose more, but now I eat more calories than I need so I don’t get any thinner, because I’ve reached the right body, and I haven’t even completed a year and a half yet!
The sentence people tell me most is: “You didn’t get skinny, you got younger.” I’m 162 cm tall and I used to wear XL; now I wear XS, and even the XS is loose on me at the waist. And I love telling you that my waist is now 66 cm!

Five years of diets that never worked
At 162 cm and 89 kg, Majd had a BMI of about 34 and wore size XL. For five years she tried one diet after another without lasting success, until she chose mini gastric bypass with Dr. Mohammad Al-Zaitawi.
10 kg in the first month, with no vomiting
Majd lost 10 kg in the first month alone. By following the instructions of dietitian Sally, who answered her messages quickly from the first days, she had no vomiting, no pain and no stomach ache, to the point that people around her could not believe it.
From XL to XS: 55 kg and a 66 cm waist
Before completing a year and a half, Majd reached 55 kg (a BMI of about 21), moved from size XL to XS and measured a 66 cm waist. She eats everything in smart portions, no longer craves sweets, and now deliberately eats a little more to hold her weight steady instead of losing more.
The journey, step by step
- Before surgery: 89 kg
Five years of diets that never worked, wearing size XL at 162 cm.
- Mini gastric bypass
Laparoscopic surgery with Dr. Mohammad Al-Zaitawi.
- First month: 10 kg lost
Close follow-up with dietitian Sally, with no vomiting or stomach pain.
- Healthy eating becomes natural
Eating everything in smart portions, with no craving for sweets.
- Under 18 months: 55 kg
34 kg lost, size XS, 66 cm waist, now eating more to keep her weight steady.
Going from a BMI of about 34 to about 21 is an excellent result, and Majd’s experience of no vomiting comes from eating slowly, in small portions, and following the nutrition plan. Many bypass patients notice they want sweets less, partly because of changes in satiety hormones and partly because sugary foods can cause dumping symptoms. Once a patient reaches a healthy weight, we adjust calories and protein with the dietitian to stabilize it, and bypass patients need lifelong vitamins and minerals and regular blood tests. Results vary from patient to patient.
This story reflects one patient's experience. Your result depends on your starting weight, health, the chosen procedure and your commitment after surgery. Only a personal medical evaluation can tell you what to expect.

Frequently asked questions
How much weight did Majd lose after mini gastric bypass?
She went from 89 kg to 55 kg, a loss of 34 kg, before completing a year and a half after surgery, including 10 kg in the first month.
Is vomiting normal after mini gastric bypass?
No. Most patients avoid vomiting by eating slowly, chewing well, stopping at the first sign of fullness and not drinking with meals. Repeated vomiting is not normal and should be reported to the surgical team promptly.
Do sweet cravings decrease after gastric bypass?
Many patients notice they want sweets less after bypass, partly because of changes in hunger and satiety hormones and partly because sugary foods can cause dumping symptoms such as dizziness and palpitations. This varies from patient to patient.
