Mohammed in his own words

Mohammed from Yemen, living in Saudi Arabia. I am 36, I weighed 151 kg, my height is 174 cm, and I had sleeve gastrectomy.

First, I offer my sincere thanks and gratitude to Dr. Mohammad Al-Zaitawi. I was hesitant to have the surgery because I was scared, and my family were against the idea and frightened me with false stories that so-and-so had the surgery and died. I followed and read about the pros and cons of the surgery, and contacted colleagues and friends who had it before me, and they all encouraged me and advised me to do it. In the end I prayed for guidance and decided to have the surgery with Dr. Mohammad Al-Zaitawi, after reading and following the doctor’s social media accounts.

I traveled alone without a companion, because my whole family was against it and refused to travel with me. I arrived in Jordan and was met at the airport, and when I met the doctor he encouraged me a lot to do it. Thank God the surgery was easy and successful. I stayed in hospital only three days after the surgery and went straight back to Jeddah.

After that I followed the plan Dr. Sally gave me, and Dr. Sally, God bless her, did everything for me; she always follows me up and gives me advice, and from time to time I send her my photos to show her how I look.

Thank God my weight is now 98, even though I never joined a gym because I don’t have time; I work two shifts, morning and evening. But I relied on walking and never neglected it; I walk every day after leaving work. Thank God I threw away my old clothes and bought new ones in small sizes, and my body looks good despite some mild loose skin, and God willing I will join a gym to tighten it. Most important of all, I regained my self-confidence and wear the clothes I like, and thank God I also recovered from high blood pressure, and the snoring that disturbed whoever slept near me is gone.

A decision despite his family’s objections and rumors

Mohammed weighed 151 kg at 174 cm. His family opposed the surgery and frightened him with untrue stories of deaths, so he did not rush. He read about the pros and cons, contacted colleagues and friends who had the surgery before him and all encouraged him, followed Dr. Mohammad Al-Zaitawi’s social media accounts, then prayed for guidance and made his decision with conviction.

Traveling alone and an easy operation

Mohammed traveled from Jeddah to Jordan alone because his family refused to accompany him. The center’s team met him at the airport, and the doctor encouraged him at their first meeting. His laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy was easy and successful; he stayed in hospital only three days and went straight back to Jeddah, then continued remotely with dietitian Sally, sending her regular photos.

The result: 98 kg and better health with walking alone

Despite working morning and evening shifts and never joining a gym, Mohammed walked every day after work and reached 98 kg, a loss of 53 kg. He recovered from high blood pressure, the snoring that disturbed those around him disappeared, he replaced his clothes with smaller sizes and regained his self-confidence. He has some mild loose skin that he plans to tighten with gym training.

The journey, step by step

  1. Before surgery: 151 kg

  2. Research and decision

Reading about the surgery, asking friends who had it, following the doctor’s accounts, then praying for guidance and deciding.

  3. Traveling alone and the sleeve

Airport reception, meeting the doctor, an easy and successful laparoscopic sleeve, and three days in hospital.

  4. Back to Jeddah and remote follow-up

Following dietitian Sally’s plan, sending regular photos, and walking every day after work.

  5. The result: 98 kg

53 kg lost, recovery from high blood pressure, no snoring, small clothing sizes and more self-confidence.

Doctor's comment

Mohammed’s story shows the importance of a decision based on knowledge rather than rumors: laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy is a safe operation when performed after a careful assessment by a specialist team. Improved blood pressure and the end of snoring are common health benefits of weight loss, but any change to or stopping of blood pressure medication must be supervised by a doctor. Regular daily walking is enough for an excellent result, and resistance training later helps firm the body and reduce mild loose skin. Results vary from patient to patient.
