Murad in his own words

My morale was at zero. I couldn’t do even the simplest things in life. I would see people older than me moving around while I couldn’t move. Sleeping, walking, going to the bathroom, even finding clothes in my size, all of it was a struggle. My health was poor, and my whole life had become exhausting.

After the surgery, my whole world changed ❤️ I started to love myself, to move, and to love life again. Nothing is hard for me anymore the way it used to be.

Eight years after the surgery, my weight has gone from 178 to 90 kg, and the change wasn’t only in my weight: my health improved, my movement is different, and I dress and live my life in a completely different way.

Thank God, there is a huge difference between my life before the surgery and after it ❤️

Doctor's comment

Keeping off 88 kg for 8 years is the result we work towards with every sleeve gastrectomy patient. The surgery reduces stomach size and hunger, but long-term stability depends on habits: regular, balanced meals, enough protein, daily movement and keeping up with follow-up. Some weight regain is possible years after any bariatric operation, so we encourage patients to keep in touch and come back early if their weight starts to creep up. Results vary from patient to patient.

Frequently asked questions

How much weight did Murad lose after sleeve gastrectomy?

He went from 178 kg to 90 kg, a loss of 88 kg, and he has kept it off 8 years after his surgery in 2018.

Does weight come back years after sleeve gastrectomy?

Some patients regain part of the weight years after surgery, usually when old eating habits return or activity drops. Regular meals, enough protein, daily movement and follow-up with the medical team help keep the result stable for the long term, as in Murad’s case.

Do sleep and mobility improve after major weight loss?

Many patients notice that sleeping, walking and daily tasks become much easier as their weight comes down, because there is less load on the joints, back and breathing. How much each person improves depends on their health before surgery.

Is sleeve gastrectomy suitable at a weight of 178 kg?

Sleeve gastrectomy can be an option at high weights, but the right operation is decided after a full medical assessment. At very high weights the surgeon also weighs the options of a sleeve and a gastric bypass based on each patient’s health, eating habits and goals.
