Doctor's comment

Improvement in type 2 diabetes is one of the most important health benefits of bariatric surgery, and in many patients it happens quickly because of weight loss and changes in the hormones that regulate appetite and blood sugar. However, reducing insulin or stopping diabetes medication must be done gradually under a doctor’s supervision with blood sugar monitoring, and patients need regular tests such as HbA1c to confirm the improvement lasts. Results vary depending on how long the patient has had diabetes, pancreatic function and commitment.

Frequently asked questions

How much weight did Mohammed Al-Kindi lose after sleeve gastrectomy?

He went from 118.5 kg to 77.4 kg, a loss of 41.1 kg, within 8 months of surgery.

Is diabetes cured after sleeve gastrectomy?

In many people with type 2 diabetes the disease goes into remission after surgery and weight loss, and some stop their medication. Medically it is more accurate to call this improvement or remission, so regular follow-up, maintaining weight and a healthy lifestyle remain essential.

When do I stop insulin after a sleeve?

Patients should never stop insulin or diabetes medication on their own. The doctor reduces doses gradually based on blood sugar readings after surgery, because the need for medication drops quickly and low blood sugar can occur if the same doses continue.

Which is better for diabetics: sleeve or bypass?

Both procedures improve diabetes, and a bypass may have a stronger effect in some cases, especially with long-standing diabetes or reflux. The surgeon chooses based on how long you have had diabetes, your weight and your health.

Can patients from Oman have the surgery in Jordan?

Yes. The center receives patients from Oman and the Gulf. You can start with a remote assessment by sending your weight, height, age, medical history and diabetes medication via WhatsApp +962 79 570 2800, then coordinate the surgery date and accommodation, with remote nutrition follow-up after returning home.
