Muneera in her own words

My name is Muneera Al-Qaimari from Palestine. My weight before surgery was 140 kg, my current weight is 69 kg, and thank God it took one year.

I used to suffer from choking when I slept, and I snored. Thank God, when my weight came down I stopped choking and snoring.

My period had stopped for 7 years; now it’s almost regular. I had polycystic ovaries, and they cleared with my medication from the gynecologist.

Before the surgery, if I walked two steps my heart would race and I’d get tired, and my knees hurt. Now I climb the stairs to the fourth floor in one breath 🥹🫶💜

People used to think I was 50; now they tell me I look 24, and I’m 27.

For me, it’s the surgery of happiness. Of course the surgery isn’t magic; we have to follow what the doctor and the dietitian say, because what helped me lose weight fastest was their support. Dr. Mohammad Al-Zaitawi, may God make him happy and grant him success, and the lovely dietitian Sally 🫶💜 I love you so much 😭😍☺️

Before surgery: choking at night and no periods for 7 years

Muneera weighed 140 kg at 27 and suffered from choking and snoring during sleep, a racing heart and fatigue after just a few steps, and knee pain. Her periods had stopped for 7 years because of polycystic ovary syndrome, and people thought she was 50.

One year later: 71 kg lighter and a different kind of health

After sleeve gastrectomy and following the instructions of Dr. Mohammad Al-Zaitawi and dietitian Sally, Muneera reached 69 kg within a year. The snoring and choking stopped, her periods became almost regular with PCOS treatment from her gynecologist, she climbs to the fourth floor in one breath, and people tell her she looks 24. She stresses that “the surgery isn’t magic” and that commitment and support are the secret of success.

The journey, step by step

  1. Before surgery: 140 kg

Choking and snoring during sleep, fatigue and a racing heart after a few steps, and knee pain.

  2. No periods for 7 years

Polycystic ovaries and obesity-related hormonal imbalance.

  3. Sleeve surgery

Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy with Dr. Mohammad Al-Zaitawi, supported by dietitian Sally.

  4. Commitment and gradual improvement

Snoring stopped, and PCOS was treated with her gynecologist.

  5. One year later: 69 kg

71 kg lost, almost regular periods, and four floors in one breath.

Doctor's comment

Obesity is strongly linked to polycystic ovary syndrome and hormonal imbalance, and weight loss together with gynecological treatment often helps periods become regular again. Because fertility can improve after weight loss, we advise delaying pregnancy for 12 to 18 months after surgery and using suitable contraception in coordination with a gynecologist. What Muneera said is true: the surgery isn’t magic, and commitment is what creates the result. Results vary from patient to patient.
