Wafaa in her own words
Hello everyone. I am Wafaa, I am 35, my previous weight was 102 kg, my height is 158 cm, and my current weight, praise be to God, a year and three months after my sleeve, is 54. I wanted to share my experience and thank the blessed hands that helped me and stood by me: the team at Dr. Mohammad Al-Zaitawi’s clinic, and the lovely Sally, the dietitian.
After many attempts with diets and slimming pills, and health problems including blood pressure medication, hormonal imbalance, constant joint and back pain and daily painkillers, I decided to solve my problem at the root. I was scared and hesitated more than once, and I faced so many discouraging people that the first time I started the surgery procedures I backed out. A year later I made the decisive decision that changed my whole life, physically and emotionally.
I went to Dr. Mohammad and set a date for the surgery, started the necessary tests, and the surgery was done, thank God. I was followed up at the clinic, and whenever I faced any problem I contacted Sally directly and she gave me the right solution. I followed the instructions and the necessary medication.
And to the young women who would like to get pregnant after surgery: I got pregnant and gave birth before completing a year after the surgery, unplanned, and during the pregnancy my weight loss did not affect my health, thank God. After giving birth I reached my ideal weight and celebrated this achievement. I cannot thank enough the team at Dr. Mohammad Al-Zaitawi’s clinic, the maker of happiness, and my friend Sally.

Why Wafaa chose sleeve gastrectomy
Wafaa weighed 102 kg at 158 cm, a BMI of 40.9 (severe obesity), with high blood pressure needing medication, hormonal imbalance, and constant joint and back pain requiring daily painkillers. She tried diets and slimming pills without lasting results and hesitated for a whole year before choosing a radical solution. After a full medical assessment, laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy was chosen as the right option for her.
Pregnancy and birth after a sleeve
Wafaa became pregnant unplanned before the end of her first year, and her medical and nutrition follow-up continued throughout the pregnancy until the birth, after which she reached her ideal weight. The standard advice is to postpone pregnancy for 12 to 18 months after bariatric surgery until weight and nutrition are stable, using suitable contraception during this time. If an early pregnancy happens, the surgeon and gynecologist should be told immediately so vitamins and protein can be adjusted and the pregnancy followed closely.
Life a year and three months later
Wafaa reached 54 kg (BMI 21.6), stopped daily painkillers as her joint and back pain improved, and her blood pressure and hormones improved under her doctor’s supervision. Her commitment to the instructions and her ongoing follow-up with the clinic’s dietitian played a key role in this physical and emotional result.
The journey, step by step
- Before surgery: 102 kg
Severe obesity with blood pressure, hormonal imbalance, joint and back pain and daily painkillers, after diets and slimming pills failed.
- Hesitation, then the decision
She started the surgery procedures and backed out, then a year later made the decision and contacted Dr. Mohammad Al-Zaitawi.
- Tests and sleeve gastrectomy
Pre-operative tests, then laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy and a gradual move from liquids to normal food.
- Follow-up with the dietitian
Ongoing follow-up at the clinic, solving any nutrition problem directly, following instructions and vitamins, and continued follow-up during pregnancy.
- After a year and three months: 54 kg
48 kg lost and ideal weight reached after giving birth, with improved blood pressure and joint and back pain.
Wafaa’s experience shows the importance of a well-considered decision and ongoing nutrition follow-up after a sleeve: going from a BMI of 40.9 to 21.6 with improved blood pressure and joint pain is the real goal of bariatric surgery. We advise women to postpone pregnancy for 12 to 18 months after surgery, and if an early pregnancy happens, close follow-up with the surgeon and gynecologist is essential to manage nutrition and vitamins. Reducing or stopping blood pressure medication is done gradually and only under a doctor’s supervision. Results vary from patient to patient.
This story reflects one patient's experience. Your result depends on your starting weight, health, the chosen procedure and your commitment after surgery. Only a personal medical evaluation can tell you what to expect.
