Ahmed in his own words
Ahmed Al-Balushi from Oman. I weighed 115 kg and my height is 168 cm.
Before the surgery I suffered from high blood pressure, shortness of breath at night, and I couldn’t walk or do any kind of exercise because of the exhaustion I felt afterwards. I followed diets, and they would bring my weight down for a while, then it would come back and increase.
Then I decided to have a sleeve, and I chose Dr. Mohammad Al-Zaitawi and his center, and thank God I made the right choice.
Now, a year after the surgery, I weigh 62 kg, everything has improved, and my health, God bless, is excellent. I thank Dr. Mohammad Al-Zaitawi and Dr. Sally for their constant contact with their patients, and thank God for the blessing of a healthy, ideal weight.

High blood pressure, breathlessness and diets without lasting results
Ahmed weighed 115 kg at 168 cm and suffered from high blood pressure, shortness of breath at night and severe exhaustion that stopped him from walking or exercising. He tried diets many times; the weight came down for a while, then returned and increased, until he decided a sleeve was the answer and chose Dr. Mohammad Al-Zaitawi and his center.
One year later: 62 kg and excellent health
Ahmed reached 62 kg one year after surgery, a loss of 53 kg, and his overall health improved: his blood pressure and night-time breathlessness got better, and he can walk and move again without exhaustion. He thanks the doctor and dietitian Sally for their constant contact and follow-up.
The journey, step by step
- Before surgery: 115 kg
High blood pressure, shortness of breath at night and exhaustion that stopped him walking and exercising.
- Repeated diets and weight regain
Many diets where the weight came down for a while, then returned and increased.
- Deciding on a sleeve and choosing the center
Choosing Dr. Mohammad Al-Zaitawi and his center, a medical assessment, then laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy.
- The first months and follow-up
Gradual weight loss with constant contact with the doctor and dietitian Sally.
- One year later: 62 kg
53 kg lost, improved blood pressure and breathing, and able to walk and exercise again.
Ahmed’s story shows that repeated dieting and weight regain is an important sign to consider surgery when the medical criteria are met. Shortness of breath at night can be a sign of obstructive sleep apnea linked to obesity, and it often improves, along with blood pressure, as weight comes down. Any change to or stopping of blood pressure medication must be supervised by a doctor. Results vary depending on starting weight, health and commitment.
This story reflects one patient's experience. Your result depends on your starting weight, health, the chosen procedure and your commitment after surgery. Only a personal medical evaluation can tell you what to expect.

Frequently asked questions
How much weight did Ahmed Al-Balushi lose after sleeve gastrectomy?
He went from 115 kg to 62 kg, a loss of 53 kg, within one year of surgery.
Does shortness of breath at night improve after a sleeve?
Night-time breathlessness can be linked to obesity-related sleep apnea, and in many patients it improves clearly with weight loss. Medical follow-up is recommended to confirm the improvement, especially for people using a breathing machine at night.
Does high blood pressure improve after a sleeve?
In many patients blood pressure improves with weight loss and the need for medication may decrease, but adjusting doses or stopping medication must only be done by the treating doctor.
Why does weight come back after diets, and does a sleeve solve this?
With dieting the body adapts and hunger increases, so many people regain weight. A sleeve reduces stomach size and the hunger hormone, helping you lose weight and keep it off, provided you stick to the diet and stay physically active after surgery.
